Bear mountain beta
« on: August 24, 2017, 05:16:09 PM »
Mountain project is pretty bare with beta from bear mountain in Waterford Maine. I'm heading that way to camp next weekend and I'll explore the area regardless, just curious what anyone may know about it. I know little bear is a chossy mess that funnels the loose rock onto belayers so it's a no go. I really want to take my nephew there for some top rope, and it looks like a fair number of trees up top that would be easy to extend with a 65 ft static rope I use.

Is there an easy hike to the top to set the anchor up? Is there anything to worry about scrambling through the boulder field?

Thanks in advance I typically get great info here

If I remember correctly, there was a 4 wheeler road to the top of the slabs. I think it was also fairly easy to walk around to the top by going far left and around the hidden smaller cliffs (which may have the easiest option for TR). This also avoided the boulder field. Not sure what state the routes are in, I only climbed there in winter but walked around there a few times in summer.
