On Sunday I went into Avalanche Lake in the 'Daks. There was still a lot of ice, so much that unfortunately I didn't get down to the far end until fairly late in the afternoon. Gold Rush of '96, a rarely formed and spectacular line was in! But since it was late and I didn't have any rock gear anyway, I had to walk away. Matt Horner went in the next day and he and his partner nabbed it and the climb next to it, Last Hurrah. He called it the best ice climbing day he has had in the Park--on 4/9!--which is saying something when you consider the stuff he's done. Some spectacular pix on the home page of neice.com.
We'll probably head back this weekend, although as warm as it's been the latter part of the week that one may not still be in. But there will be some stuff still.
