Lost Horizon top rope
« on: July 22, 2018, 06:57:56 PM »
A friend went to Lost Horizon (Sundown) yesterday to set up a couple of easy top ropes, but told me they couldn't access the anchor bolts from the top. Are people usually scrambling down, leading from bottom or using trees further back (assuming they are in reasonable distance)? Just wondering as I haven't been there myself.

Top access to the bolted (and tree) anchors at the top of Lost Horizon top-ropes isn't exactly straight forward. They can be accessed by climbing up the gully to the left of the area and then either:

1) down climbing 3rd and 4th class exposed terrain

2) doing a short rappel off a tree above the anchors <- safer but more time consuming

3) leading one of the two 5.4's and then setting ropes on harder stuff as desired

If you know the cliff well you can scramble to a few of the anchors but care must be taken, quite a few places a slip could be fatal.
