Maine Ice Venues
« on: January 21, 2003, 10:33:27 AM »

I live in southeastern Mass. and met a guy that wants to go ice climbing who lives in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine.  Never mind the fact that this is a geographically undesirable union of partners, can anyone tell me about some good ice venues that are nearly half-way between us?  For starters, I know about Evans notch, but that would involve a 3-mile ski approach on top of our drive (presuming a day trip).

This guy is a beginner, so even a small area with a Frankenstein-like approach would be a thrill for him.

Thanks

I spoke to someone who was there last weekend & they said it was very good. also you can drice down the road to the pullout 'cause they're doing line work out there right now.

enjoy,

Thanks to all for the recommendations.  You've inspired me to re-visit the guide book, and I found these venues and others as well.  Also, thanks for the real-time conditions report for the ice and road at Shell pond.
