Accomodations for Festiglace
« on: January 22, 2003, 08:31:02 AM »

Anyone have any suggestions on where to stay in/around Quebec for the Festiglace.  We're thinking of going up, but have no idea where to stay....

Wasn't it the Quebec World Cup event that was cancelled?

You might have better luck posting on the bulletin board at www.gripped.com.  That is the Canadian version of Climbing/Rock & Ice

Hey Jeff,

Check out the bulletin board at www.gripped.com again, looks like you've got a nibble.  Set the hook, and don't let him get away...

I actually already talked to that guy...he was helpful as far as what towns to stay in, but didn't give me any specifics on hotels...the more I investigate, the more I get the feeling that Pont Rouge is a very small town (I've never been there).  I'm starting to wonder if we shouldn't just stay in Quebec, and drive out to the festival/climbing....

We were there a few years ago.  I remember a couple of small hotels in Pont Rouge but we just car camped.  I thought they were listed on the Festiglace website.  Pont Rouge is a small town.  It is probably 30-40 mins from Quebec City.  Try to get on Mer de Glace for a nice 4 or 5 pitch moderate and Montmorency has some fun climbing for the morning of the trip home.  Don't expect much climbing at the festival.  There will be a few climbs not taken up by courses...mostly 5 and up.  There is a nice 4+ and 5 on river left that wasn't taken up when we were there.  If the ice along side the river is not good, you can access these by walking up a gully to the left of the pillars (can't remember their names but they're obvious)and sloging along the top.  There are signs at the top of the routes. There are a number of real cheap hotels down in the area of Montmorency.

Ended up getting a hotel by Montmorency...cheap and the climbing there is a bit more within our range!
