Help (and Sleds) Needed to Clean a Mountain

Okay, this is an odd request (and not truly climbing related) with short notice, but I'm hoping this may appeal to a western Mass climber or two. There is a steel beacon tower on Mt. Hitcock in the Holyoke Range that was cut down by the state for insurance reasons around 8 years ago and left on it side on top of the mountain. Our group of hiking/climbing friends decided to take some action. We got approval to remove it, and last week we lugged up an oxy-acetylene cutting setup and started cutting it into manageable pieces. This weekend, we will continue cutting and start putting the pieces onto sleds and bringing them down the mountain. We have secured a landowner's permission at the foot of the mountain that will help us with a shorter hauling route for the scrap, and give us a staging area for it. Right now we are in need of sleds and maybe some junk climbing ropes to set up fixed ropes to control the sleds. If you're interested in helping out this weekend send me an email at fconway3@aol.com.

Thanks,

Frank Conway
