Climbing Wall in Waterville, NH???
« on: June 06, 2006, 06:55:10 AM »
Just wondering if there's a climbing wall in Watervile? Or if not where's the nearest one?

I have a job offer there for the winter but don't know the area at all as I'm from Ireland and don't know if i'd survive the winter without a wall...

The closest indoor climbing is plymouth which is about 25 minutes away. It is called the rock barn.

Welcome Orla. I'm from Ireland too. Been living in the White Mtns for a while but I'll be moving to NY soon. If you're here for the winter try ice climbing. I can put you in touch with someone.
Cheers, Colm.

Rock Barn is small but useful. owned by Jim Schimburg, area guide. nice guy & great climber. you are also close to Rumney, a great sport climbing area. there are generally folks there almost all the winter in spite of the cold & snow.

Jim is great, but I hope you aren't scared of dirt. Think ooooldschool and make your own routes. I am going to see if some rainy day Jim will let me in with a vacuum cleaner and a bucket of soapy water and wrench (hint, hint, Jim ;-)  ).

If there is sun, very good winter rockclimbing can be had at Rumney. The Main Cliff is like a sun bowl. Bring your big poofy (sorry, puffy to you) jacket, handwarmers to put in watever shoes you aren't wearing and some hot tee (might be good for the gym too, in the winter)

Ah, a bit of dirt never hurt anyone so I reckon I'll survive.
Accepted my job so will be over in December... Can't wait - it sounds great :D
