The Boys of Everest: Chris Bonington et. al.
« on: October 30, 2006, 04:15:46 PM »

Please check out my new book, The Boys of Everest: Chris Bonington and the Tragedy of Climbing's Greatest Generation. It's a finalist for Best Book, Mountain Literature, at Banff Mountain Book festival this week, and as my friend Max Alexander says, it's a ripping read. The book tells the story of Bonington and his closest companions, including Whillans, Haston, Estcourt, Burke, Tasker, Boardman and others. They helped give birth to a new era of climbing, tackling big Himalayan Walls with smaller and smaller teams in the 70s and 80s, and they paid a heavy price. There's lots more information on the website (including reviews from Climbing and elsewhere); visit Please tell your friends, and let me know how you like it. Thanks.
