upgraded forum
« on: December 11, 2006, 11:22:48 PM »
I installed a new version of our forum tonight. sorry that the forum was down for about 30 minutes & then there was a little problem which was quickly resolved. there are some new features that I will be turning on in the coming weeks.

one of the cooler things is the new registration system that uses the CAPTCHA-based code verification. if you have registered for anything in the past 6 months or so you have seen it. it makes you typr in some computer generated letters to confirm your humanity. it slows up the automated registration systems that the spammers use. I already spend over an hour a week deleting spam registrations, so this should help.

enjoy,

in case you didn't notice  ;D I have changed the default theme of the forum. I think that this one is a little easier to read. I liked the tabbed look of the previous one but it was a little too bright for me. anyway, you can change your version to any of the other supported themes in your personal profile manager.

have fun...

Wow, the new CAPTCHA registration code has cut out 99.9% of the spam registrations I was getting. that was certainly worth the hassle of implementing it...  :-*

Would you please post some instructions for dummies on how to "crack" the code to send a PM ? I don't have a freaking clue.

I doubt you are "dummy"...  ::)

however it's not always clear how to do stuff like that. basically in any of the forum messages there should be a IM icon. there is one to the left of this message. click on that & you get to an email-like interface. for more details click on the Help button/tab on the top of the page and scroll down to the Personal Message topic.
