Climable Snow on Mt. Washington
« on: May 15, 2003, 09:17:00 AM »

I'm looking at jumping up to The Whites this weekend and would like to know is there still climbable snow in the major gullies of Mt. Washington?  If so where are the best places to go for some thrilling climbing?

I would certainly say that if you tried to climb snow in the gullies it could be thrilling. most, if not all, of us up here have written them off for this season. Huntington is a death trap right now. while there are still folks skiing in Tucks, the crevases (sp?) are opening up all over the place and it's pretty trecherous. last week a skiier fell into one. fortunately he was able to climb out by himself, but he was lucky.

just my 2 cents...

I was up two weekends ago and climbing on the snow of Hunington's (having been told that Tuckerman was a death trap).  The conditions were great- compressed snow and climbing in my shorts.  Have things gone that far since then?
