I am going up to Acadia July 2 through July 6 to boulder and climb routes. Where is the best place for a poor dirt bag climber to stay on the island?

Anyone else going up or interested in going up there?

Thanks in advance,

I've been up there many times, but the only place I've stayed is in the regular State campground that's on the island. it is convenient & not too expensive & there are always a lot of other climbers there. the July 4th weekend will definitely be packed, so make reservations. I don't know the # for that but you should be able to find it on the state of Maine's site.

have a great time,

I will be there July 3-6.  The climbing is too good to be true.  As far as getting camping space you may be hurting.  I'm camping outside the National Park at Mt. Desert Narrow's Camp Ground.  It's a very well run camp ground.  I'll try to remember to send you their number tonight when I get home.  Drop me a line if you need any specific information.

I'm heading up to Acadia over the fourth as well.  One problem though.  I can't find on single free camping site anywhere.  Public or private.  If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to share!  Or, if anyone has a large site they want to share and split the cost.  I will have two tents and one car.  Thanks!!

As far as I know there are no free camping spots.  Acadia is America's 3rd most visited National Park.  Space is at a premium.  The place where I camp makes a point of asking how many campers will be at the location.  I've never tested their patrol policy.  If things seem cool with camp ground I have no problems with somebody pitching a tent on any unused space at my site.  I haven't seen my location yet I just know I have a place reserved.

Try these web sites:

The camp ground I highly don't recommend:
Mt. Desert Narrows Camping Resort
RR 1 Box 2045T
Bar Harbor, ME 04609

I stay at the Mount Desert Campground and highly recommend it.  Here is their website:

Good Luck.

Hi All,
I'm heading up to Acadia July 26th to August 2nd.  Any other climbers heading up there during that time.  I'd love to share a rope on a couple of stellar routes.
