Beta For Route 16
« on: July 18, 2003, 10:46:25 AM »

Okay, here's the deal.  Let's face it many of the people who climb in NH (to the chagrin of the NH residents) are coming from "the south," and whether we like it or not, we spend a lot of time on Rt 16 behind slooooow people.

There are passing lanes, but they are all over the place and I can never remember how long they are.  To make matters worse, the signs telling you the passing lane is about to end are inconsistent.  Sometimes they say the passing lane is about to end and there is 1/2 mile left and then there's one passing zone, where it just drops off immediately.  I have seen all sorts of near misses on account of this.  Wouldn't it be nice to know how much passing lane you have to work with and where exactly they are?

Well, on one of my numerous excursions to North Conway I was complaining about this to my friend Joe, and he challenged me to compile list.

Here it is. I did my best to make it accurate, but found out my odometer is off by about 5%.  I compensated as such, but use at your own risk.

For northbound, set your trip odometer to 0 at the Rochester Tolls.  For southbound, set to 0 at the intersection of the Kanc.  Dunkin Donuts seemed like another natural thing to track so they are there too.

Sorry for the lousy formatting - Yabb doesn't support tables.

Also, I am not condoning speeding.  :)

-David

Laugh you will, but people will use it.

Sounds like someone has forgotten what it was like to get to Cathedral before it became a 3 minute commute.

it's true about forgetting about the commute. <grin> I rarely go over to Rumney or Canon 'cause it's "too far!" actually because I haven't done everything here that I want to do here yet.

Living in central Vermont is awesome.  I am pretty much the same distance from The Whites and the Dacks.   Although, the rock here is shist, and well, it sucks. (frown)
