Lamest Excuses...
« on: July 22, 2003, 09:15:16 AM »
I have recently become interested in what the lamest excuse anyone has heard or used for not climbing well.

For example:

"My shoes aren't sticky enough."
"The sun was in my eyes"
"High gravity day..."

I bring this up because I may have come up with a candidate for the lamest excuse ever used and want to know if anyone can top me.

Yesterday I was climbing some very steep friction (TR), and I felt that I couldn't keep the center of gravity of my legs close enough to the rock.  I complained that "my feet were too long."

It made sense to me at the time, but my belayer's hysterical laughter set me straight.

Can anyone top this?

How about:

"Sorry, I can't climb right now, I have to type on my computer......"

Yep, the lamest exceuse I ever came up with was,
"I can't climb now cause I'm just too blazzed and don't even feel like climbing."  Yes, and am still ashamed of myself. :-[

We went craggin at Echo one day, me and four other guys. two of my freinds and I wanted to run up to the top of Artists bluff to warm up and the other two went straight to the crag. So when we finaly met up with them back at the crag they were both sitting around reading a climbing mag. We asked them why they werent climbing and one of them said "I'd rather read this mag"
Climb hard and take chances

I've definitely heard the "i don't want to scratch up my new gear" or "i don't want to fall on my new rope" excuses before...that's about as lame as they come...and the ever popular "oops, i forgot my harness (or other gear), and it's too far to hike to the car and back up here"

but the thing about having feet that are too long is a good one. :)
Climb hard, climb smart or fall...That's all there is to it.

"I don't want to climb with you because I'm not experienced enough". My response: With that attitude you never will be, either.
