autoroute is out on DVD
« on: January 19, 2004, 08:40:27 PM »
Robert Frost's new video, AutoRoute, is now available. of course I'm prejudiced, since I developed the DVD, but I think it's really well done. The footage of Stefan Segrist on his new route that goes up the Eiger is awesome and some of the mixed stuff he's into is truly amazing. Dave Graham, Joe Kinder, Tim Kemple & the boys are also featured on some big hard routes in places like Ceuse. They are definitely cranking.

You can check out the trailer by clicking on the ad on the home page. It's well worth a look. We're also finalizing Uncommon Ground on DVD and it should be out soon.

Al,

Just watched the trailer.  Looks great.  Any idea when it will hit the local dealers?

within the next couple of days. OR, you can buy it through the site. <grin> ahhh, but then you don't need shipping, do you? so you can just pick it up at any of the shops by Thursday.

I'ld swing by and pick up a copy from you if you have them in stock and would prefer the sale.  Otherwise I'll wait for them to hit the shelves.

that's no problem Dave. I should have them in the house tomorrow. I'm waiting for Robert to bring them by. I'll email you as soon as they are here.

saw the premier of autoroute in salt lake and couldn't hear the audio.  just received the dvd last week and was pumped to finally hear what they were saying!  Uncommon Ground and Autoroute are by far the highest quality climbing videos out there!  There's a perfect balance of climbing and commentary and scenery!  I've been anxiously awaiting it's release for some time and couldn't be any happier.  Good work to all involved in it's production and I hope you continue the trend!

Is the video available in "old-school" VHS for those of us that would like to see it but would rather spend a $100+ on crampons instead of a DVD player? Just curious.

Thanks,

In know, I know... right now the video is only available in DVD. when we got it all done we polled the distributors and they all wanted DVD's 8 to 1. and, since the cost of manufacturing is almost 2x as expensive for VHS, we decided to go all DVD. at least for now. in addition the quality is really a lot better on DVD, even on a mediocre tv set.

FWIW you can get a DVD player at Walmart for about $60. as things go along there won't be a lot of movies being released on VHS, especially from the small independent companies.

as soon as Robert can find the time to put together the oouttakes & press them. other than that it's all done. I really hope he can get  it out by the end of the month, but it's out of my hands.
