Accident on Recompense?
« on: June 19, 2011, 07:46:51 PM »

Climbing on the South Butt this afternoon when we heard the sirens (maybe 1:30 or so?) Any details on the accident?  :-\

an interesting part of this is that, according to the news this morning, the rescue was affected by NH Fish & Wildlife and the Conway Fire Department. there was no mention of MRS! I would have figured that would have been a "technical rescue"... was MRS not called?

Al, one of my long time clients sent me this link this morning, which does mention the MRS, with photo of MRS members doing their job. Jeff

Crews said they rescued a Massachusetts man who was doing a 550 feet climb of Recompense Pass in North Conway after he fell 20 feet to a ledge below on Saturday afternoon.

Mark Gallagher, 48, suffered a compound fracture of his left leg. Gallagher was 120 feet from the top when the accident occurred. He was rescued with the help of New Hampshire Fish and Game, Mountain Rescue Service, the U.S. Forest Service and members from the North Conway fire department.
He was taken to Conway Memorial Hospital for treatment. Recompense Pass is part of Cathedral Ledge in North Conway.

More like 380?  Just a guess; it has been many years ....
John, better climb it now before it grows to 700!  :)
