Passaconaway is rarely open before mid-May. I'll know about West Side Rd when we take the kiddo to the middle school in an hour!

For those who are interested, As of this morning thin air wall is drying up. Saigons are dripping but still doable, thin air had the usual traverse dampness and the top pitch looked wet, turner's and toe looked good. Some of the harder slabs looked dry but all with a wet spot or two. No ice fall above, just down the gully.

if you are considering climbing on Whitehorse, or at the North End of Cathedral, check out the pictures in the Report!

temps are moderate in the Valley, but the winds are HOWLING! gusts are up to 30 on occasion and it looks really black up north. certainly not a day to be up in teh Ravines IMO.

Working in the garden today while Ella was napping...sun broke through and the black flies were about 30 seconds behind.

"Not biting," I thought, then I kneeled down and felt something biting my ankle.  And it was not the last one.

Never sen them show up and start biting on the same day.

Won't be long for you guys, since I am at 1,100 feet and generally much delayed for Massachusetts.

Enjoy.

Wife and I took her daughter up Upper Refuse this evening.  I was afraid that with all the rain Friday night and yesterday morning we wouldn't even be able to get started, let alone climb the entire thing.  I was quite surprised when we got to the base of the route and the first 30' was expectedly wet but the rest appeared dry.  I did a variation start from the Black Lung area to avoid most of the wet, and the only other wet spot was about 15' below the "top" of the last pitch.

FWIW, the entire Barber wall was soaking, dripping wet and looks like it will be for a few more days more than likely.

And, as a second aside, I'm still not 100% from my hospital stay yet.  Made it up with no huge issues, but damn was I tired after I got to the pine tree ledge....  Hoping the weather will be good next weekend, wanting to get the rest of the kiddos up to Square Ledge Saturday afternoon.

Anyone know the conditions of Fun House or Upper Refuse?  Thinking of heading over tomorrow.

I definitely got a black fly bite at Rumney last weekend after putting up a new route.  I know that Rumney isn't really New Hampshire, but the bug score of zero is questionable.

new routing with black fly bites, sounds like an opportunity for a cool climb name....
