Finally got out and did shoestring on monday.  Pretty thin, but the lack of snow conditions made it really fast.  It took me more than twice as long to get there than climb the route.  Running water down low, but great ice up high.  Had it to myself until the top when I ran into a couple other guys.  Good stuff.

I did check out another under used area on the way home that I'll post up.  2 great obvious lines that are recorded with a bunch of other stuff that I'm sure has been done and a super sweat direct finish of another climb.

I've really been wanting to say this for the past 6 weeks!  :D

It looks as if it's going to be a great weekend to go ice climbing. There are lots of climbs in the lower elevations that have good to reasonable ice and it's really building fast.  ;D  Make your plans for the weekend now and come on up.

yee ha......

Climbed at Frankenstein and Texaco last weekend, Frankenstein and Lost Helmet Crag this weekend.  The ice is certainly getting better in most places.  Ive noticed more downed trees this year than any winter before.  Maybe even some rock fall by the Russian climbs left of Smear.  Maybe something from the Diamonds and Rust area fell off this past year...or maybe the snow is so thin I never noticed the rocks before...

when it's in, Lost Helmet is pretty cool. 2 weeks ago it looked darn good and there was no snow to make for a very easy hike. it's directly in the sun so by late season it's all done.

Climbed Texaco today all by ourselves. A few good routes 70-90 feet. Still a few waiting to touch down be we had a blast.

sweet. I'll bet it was pretty nice in the sun. sometimes it can be very cold and windy and that is a pretty reasonable place to be...

^^
Look for a can of Dinty Moore on the hike out!

In all seriousness, that was a fun climb/hike last year; it was a pretty good snow/water year and I still managed to find a thin, chandeliered line over the initial steeper section that had me swearing.  MEClimber took a different line and it sounded sporty, too.

Had a great day yesterday (sunday) on Bob's Delight (Great condition) and Chia. Despite many cars in the upper lot, the crag was pretty quiet with Standard seeing the most action. Climbers on Smear, Pegasus, Pegasus Rock finish and Hobbit's while we were there. Sunny and 20's...a perfect day in my book!
