It was dry last weekend. However with the last few days of showers it is questionable. It is south facing and tends to seep a day or 2 after rain on the upper pitches. Anyone been in the area this week?

I went out climbing this morning with my old and dear friend Martin Avidan. While Frankenstein looked pretty pitiful today, only Standard looked really climbable, upper Crawford Notch is coming along nicely. We went up Lower Hitchcock and the Left Hand Monkey Wrench. Then we walked over to The Cleft and kept going right, eventually ending up at Read Between The Lines. It looked to be in excellent conditions, so I led that. The ice was fat and plastic and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We ended up thrashing up and left to the exit trail for Upper Hitchcock to the main Willard hiking trail and down. All in all it was an excellent day. The ice is coming in rapidly and in a few days there will be many options.

Nice i was just talking about that climb today with a friend descending off the dike. Great little climb indeed. Can you remind me what the line just to the left of it is?

Rode up to Crawford Notch today, Wednesday. With the exception of Frankenstein, it's a lot looking better. Now that we have some snow we need some real cold to make the Amphitheater form up. It's going to be interesting o see what happens with the big snowstorm that's coming through tonight and tomorrow, and then the smaller snowstorms that are predicted right through the weekend.

I think it's doable now. the start is very thin, but it will go.

We've had consecutive days with temps well below freezing all day and it's made a huge difference in conditions. Lots of stuff is climbable now, even some things in the Frankenstein Amphitheater. I would still say that the Upper Notch is better, but that's changing every day. Is everything IN, I'm not sure I would say that, but if you want to climb ice, you can do it now.

Except now it is really too cold for climbing ice ;)

Seriously... yesterday I saw people gearing up for Willey’s..... BRRRRRR.... TBH the ice will benefit from some warming... we went from great ice 3 days ago to cold, brittle, painful conditions... but the temps are supposed to moderate in the next couple days...

It was great yesterday and today imop. Got back to the car yesterday evening as the sun was setting and it was a balmy 6%. The wind whipping up the trestle was wicked, i actually ran in my ice boots pack and all the last 500 meters to the car. Over near gully #1 at 7am it really sucked. Over on the east face it was rather cozy though tbh.

This morning in Franconia Notch it was outright balmy at 18%!!

No complaints from me as we have ice to climb.

Not sure where you're getting your weather reports, but everything I see says it gets colder over the next few days and even though it warms slightly by thur/fri it will still be colder then than it has been over the past couple of days.

Did the Penguin yesterday...total blast. Standard is building quickly and the Garden is looking more than promising. Cold temps predicted for the rest of the week. Let the season begin! ;)
