Grafton Notch
« on: January 30, 2012, 08:42:09 PM »

Guessing most locals have already done their recon in the notch by now, but if you're thinking of heading up, here's a peek.  It's a mixed bag, but we had a bee-youtiful day out yesterday.

Typical looming cloud cover.

Rest of the day was this awesome.

H-T.  Kinda thin.

Moose Cave.  The easier flows down and left were completely snow-covered.

No good pics of the slabs.  Some rock showing, though.

Amphitheater.  Things are surprisingly good.

Troy at the top of the corkscrew gully Amphitheater left.

Get out there.

If it's overhanging, I'm probably off-route.

Rest of the notch looked pretty similar to last weekend, but the amphitheater climbs, esp the left side, have built significantly.  There are also some ice dams on the trail to negotiate.  Troy and John found plating conditions on the steep line  second from left.

Today we played on the rock on either side of the main ice flows.
This is just left of the corkscrew gully.  Small gear for the rock, and then sling trees through short rock/verglas steps to top.

Right side fist crack.  Cams to 4" or so.

(edited for dyslexia; plating conditions found in pitch to the right of the left-most ice line by Troy and John on Saturday)
