Ueli Steck is really amazing. I really like what he has to say in this interview.

"When it becomes too much [the adoration & acclaim] I have to tell myself that I am just a normal guy – and if I don’t succeed [in convincing myself], my wife certainly will."

and surprise - I didn't realize Freddie was climbing with him there!!!!

"When I did the solo speed ascent of the Eiger North Face, I was probably safer than those parties roped together – I know that I am not going to fall.”

Boy... I think a few of us had sweat on our brows watching that video...

Derek Hersey said in a Climbing magazine interview, which noted that he onsight soloed close to his onsight lead grade:  "The chances of me falling are pretty much zero...I just have to go with that."

Didn't work out all that well for him, RIP.

Well, Ueli summited Everest w/o supp O2 but no mention of setting a speed record -

So Steck climbs Everest without O2? Well, I'd certainly hope so from an individual with the aerobic capacity to climb the North Face of the Eiger in 2 hours and "something stupid fast" minutes...(shrug) not surprising...old news...saw if coming...
