African Queen at Humphrey's
« on: June 20, 2012, 04:49:20 PM »
I've been wanting to lead this for some time, so I did it today. It's just to the right of Straight Up and is an alternate start to that climb. It was done by Kurt Winkler and Doug Madera so you can figure what it is like. Tho I do think it is a bit on the R side, the rock is great and the protection, where you can get it, is pretty good. I just gotta wonder when the last time was someone climbed it? When I did it on TR last fall it really looked as if it hadn't been done in 20 years.

Picture is on the home page. If you feel like a head-point, this is pretty nice for the grade...  ;)

Al, have to be a lunatic to climb in this heat. This is why I left the south. (well, for the ice, too).

Standard Doug 5.9

that's true...

thanks sneoh... it's a cool climb

BTW pappy -  what was really neat was that in the shade, right next to the rock, there was this little cool breeze that was not there 30' back. it was a convection flow from the cooler rock and was very pleasant. pretty darn neat...

we've been putting in some cool stuff over the past 2 years on the Little Slab and I like to wear myself out flailing on the Lumberjack Crack. [grin] also, I just happen to like the location...

The lumberjack wall would be good for me...I need the work!! I have been hoping to get out to shell as well to try to get on some harder stuff to see how the shoulder holds up. I really need to push it a bit more...still can't do 8 pullups...(and 8 is painful)...but the push ups are just starting to go a little better. Straight arm hangs hurt as well...
