AMGA chose the crusty Conway curmudgeon as their Guide of the Year for 2012.

"In recent years the Guide of the Year award has gone to recipients who have achieved something significant in their personal guiding or climbing. This year we are proud to recognize a guide for his efforts in educating and mentoring future guides. Marc Chauvin began teaching guide courses for the AMGA in 1984. He is currently the longest running instructor working for the AMGA. It is a testament to his dedication and enthusiasm that he is still one of our most respected instructors."
