Katahdin routes
« on: July 09, 2013, 10:19:58 AM »

First time posting here.  I recently climbed The Armadillo and Hanta Yo on Katahdin.  Wow!  Two really good alpine climbs but I thought the fixed bong on the third pitch of the Armadillo really took away from the climb.  I was a little surprised to see it there given the pure nature of the mountain, bsp and the route itself.  I certainly wouldn't complain if it was gone the next time I go back  :)
Hanta Yo was also a great route.  Super fun climbing on a very cool wall.  Does anyone have info on this route?  History, fa, etc.??  Would love to hear some stories of other folks on these two routes also.
Can't wait to go back!

I did the Armadillo route back in 1966, with a few guys from the HMC, There were a few old pitons in it, as I remember.

Can't say who did the 1st ascent.

Bugs were okay in south basin, bad in north basin.
Yes I did check the book in the ranger's cabin.  There was some good stuff in there.
