webcam update...
« on: July 17, 2013, 10:34:30 AM »

so finally got around to doing a bunch of work on the webcam a day or 2 ago. the dome had gotten really dirty from the intense pine pollen we had a few weeks ago. on top of that there was a colony of ants living inside it again! go figure. I know it hasn't been showing the cliff sometimes and I don't really understand what that was about. the software positioning hadn't changed, but some of the positions were showing the trees about 40% of the time. I'm thinking that maybe the tree itself had shifted! it actually is tilted and it's a really huge tall pine so that is possible. anyway, I set new positions in the software and it seems to be OK right now. now I need to hire a tree person to come over and do some trimming work. they have really grown a lot since I first set it up and I can't get the Book or Upper refuse like I used to. [sigh]

anyway, enjoy...

Al, what kind of trimming and how high up?  I have some arboriculture experience, but I don't have a lot of tree climbing gear.  Depending on what needs done though, it might not take much...

I have a feeling it might have caught some headlamps Sunday night- my girlfriend and I were up there to find the start of Thin Air (she had never actually been at the base) and when we were headed out at 8 pm a group of 3 guys were headed in to start climbing.

thanks for the offer, but there are some pretty big trees that need trimming. I need to get a real tree person, if for no other reason but so they are insured. can't take a chance with that liability stuff. [wry grin]
