Rapping is super dangerous and I do everything I can to make it as safe as I can....maybe I'm paranoid.

...this type of accident should piss everyone off.

I agree, especially when it is so easily prevented.

I hope the injured kid heals up well.

I've been saying to many climbers this last year that it is inevitable more accidents will occur, simply because there are many more climbers out and about, than in the past.

I do not habitually tie knots in the ends of a rope when rappelling. I DO check my rappel set up carefully,  and even more so, as I get older.

It depends on the route, terrain etc. Obviously, in multiple rappels, where I am uncertain of anchors, ledges etc. I will ALWAYS
knot the end of my rope.

I am amazed that I survived my youth. I could relate some really dumb moves rappelling in the Bugaboos, back in 1967, on a 1st ascent, but it is unrelated to this thread. Some people are just lucky, and manage to scrape by. I, up till now,
have been one of the lucky ones, and realizing this, has made me even more carefull when rappelling.

+1.  Identical for me.
