Rock Fall Damage, Lost in the Sun
« on: September 22, 2013, 10:55:58 AM »
Climbed on Webster Slabs yesterday (21 Sep).  Wandered between Lost and A Bit Short.  We saw lots of recent rock fall scars (maybe the rain last Thursday).  Didn't notice until the raps, the second pitch anchor of Lost in the Sun took a direct hit...  The right anchors on the same ledge are unscathed, as was all the other hardware we encountered.  Also beavers are building a pretty decent dam on the "side stream" after you cross the Saco.  A downed tree left (east) of the normal crossing spot makes a good bridge.

ThnX for posting this Tim. that's amazing that it just took out the hanger.  :P I wonder if the stud is still OK? I would guess it's not worth trusting...

Or one o' them beavers is sporting a new septum or nipple ring.
Maybe.

If it's overhanging, I'm probably off-route.

Yikes! A beaver with huge nipples.   :o  Must've been in town for the NAZCAH races.

Hi,

The last time that there was an issue with Lost in the Sun I went up and fixed it, but this time I won't as I'm no longer rock climbing. A few years ago I lost interest in technical climbing, gave away my route development gear and have moved on to other things.

Now at age 71 I'm still active but focusing on things more suitable for my advanced age like photography, kayaking, hiking, skate skiing and running road or trail races. Got a half marathon coming up the Sunday after next.

Well Jack sorry to hear that but thanks for your contributions! I’ve only done a couple of your routes they were all good.

Jack:

thnX for the things that you did. They will be enjoyed for many years. Sounds like you're keeping busy and staying active, and that's great.

I'll certainly add my thanks for your exploration and work.  Those Webster climbs are a staple annual pilgrimage for me.
