Guide book list?
« on: November 17, 2013, 10:55:18 PM »

I'm relatively new to New England climbing and noticed that there is no comprehensive climbing guide book.  I have been told that if someone was to create this it would be as thick as the unabridged Webster's Dictionary.   So I get why it doesn't exist.  Has anyone put together a list of the best books for NE?  I am particularly interested in the North Conway area but thought a complete list might be useful for other climbers,  new to NE or not.

You posted this in the trad forum so although I assume you are looking for rock climbing guides I will add my favorite guide because my favorite time of year is upon us.  If you ice climb or enjoy mixed climbing this is a must have (be prepared not cheap):

Sorry.  I meant to place this in the Beginner forum.  Damn smart phones.  :P  I concur on the An Ice Climber's Guide to Northern New England, Third Edition.  It seems like a good guide.

There are a few guidebooks that cover the Northeast like:
Rock Climbing New England by Stewart Green
New England Bouldering by Tim Kemple
Selected Climbs in the Northeast by Peter Lewis
and an out of print book East Coast Rock Climbs by John Harlin

Just talked to IME and they only have a few left for 29.95! When they are gone there are NO MORE!  :(

I have 6 new ones that will be on the auction block soon! ;D

The Acadia book by Jeff Butterfield is one to have if you ever even think about getting up there.  I happened to find a new copy on Amazon over the summer for regular list price, whatever that was ($20 or so?).
