MWV Climbers Beer Night?
« on: November 25, 2013, 09:47:47 AM »

My wife and I lived in Las Vegas for a season.  One of the cool things the climbing community did there was a beer night.  Local climbers as well as anyone from out of town would get together at a chosen spot(Moat).  It seemed like a great way to meet the community, meet new partners and get to know about others projects in the works.

I had the luck of meeting and climbing with a long time local named Larry.   After the 3 hour approach to the start of the line Larry wanted to put up, (4 pitch off width) he put on his swami belt and let me know his nick name.... Scary Larry!
Getting to the top was not half as exciting as getting down.  With the bolting ban in affect Larry brought a assortment of webbing/rope with various nots pre tied.  The decent was 3 repels with various nots wedged, and a chock stone tied off. I believe Larry named the route cool hand luke 5.9....+ The + is all me but my sense of adventure is far less than his.  If any of you know Larry you know he is the real deal.

So just wanted to throw out the idea and see if there is any interest in a community gathering like this.

I would be down for this.  We should do it on one of the ice fest nights in North Conway.  It could be a neclimbs meet and greet :D

You talking about the author of this great book?

If so you are indeed lucky to have shared some rope with him, I would relish that. Get the book if you havenít already... it has some great stories about Red Rocks...

I'd probably head out to the Moat for beers with enough advanced notice. I'll even tell you my "First Time I Roped Up With The Honeybadger" story.

Is this a guide book or a book of short stories?

I'd be down for a meet and greet with enough notice, assuming I'm not pushing snow...  ::)

Kinda both... donít have it with me right now but it highlights a dozen or more of the classic trad routes that define Red Rocks with great narratives on their origins... more ďhistoryĒ than guidebook, but very worth the read if you plan on climbing any trad in RR.

OK Matt you started this thread when and where is it going to be?  My vote is the Saturday of the ice fest.

That Saturday works for me.  As far as the place where does everyone most prefer?  It will be cool to meet up.
