there might be something IF it really does get cold tomorrow. I would say that there might possibly be something on Willard by Sunday. but there isn't going to be anything that's really good in teh lower elevations.

And then sulk.

Taking the tools out for a walk anyway!

Definitely not Willey’s or Goofers’, though it reminds me of an early season Goofers.

Got my first 15cm screw about halfway to the anchor that year...

Come on Perswig, do tell!

Wasn't Willy's, I did that yesterday, and it didn't look like that at all! Also did Elephant Head Gully to round out the day. Both were pretty fat, but it was COLD!

Frickin' nuts to think this is Willey's. No camera angle magic would make it look that steep. Just no.

EDIT: On that note could everyone stop climbing Willey's from bottom to top hunched over with two Nomics? You look ridiculous.

Who's Willey's son?  Waylon?  (grin)

And where's LL when we need French lessons?  Although he'd find some way to bring sport vs trad into the discussion of the proper use of sans in written work, I'm sure.

Haha!  Nice headfake, Tomcat!  Very sly.
DMan, that's a great shot of Goofer's.

Plenty of lurkers here know that my pics are from the upper slabs (or cataracts) on the dark side of Grafton Notch.  They get some spring-fed seepage from Old Speck, not totally reliant on snowmelt like much of the rest of the notch.
I've solo'd some of the easier lines this early in the season in years past, where nothing else besides the streambed was in, but the ice up high can be plastic (albeit thin enough to preclude any chance of pro).

Those pics are of Tom, Troy and I on the climber's left slab, which has two slightly steeper lines than much of the rest of the options.  Still pretty mellow, took excellent screws, some mild plating.  Good warmup for off-the-couch climbing.
The upper pitches, unfortunately,  summon up images of DMan's Quasimodo with Nomics.

I saw one car at the streambed turnout, but we didn't get a chance to check out conditions there or at the Amphitheater.  Moose Cave had some reasonable-looking ice but pretty limited.  The practice slabs over the beaver dam were barren, as was H-T.

Enjoy.
Dale

edit:  Just yanking, shred 123!  Sometimes auto-correct spews some funny stuff.  Welcome to the forum!
