Grivel X-Blade
« on: June 20, 2014, 08:28:14 pm »
I am purchasing some gear for my school (boarding high school), and I am considering a pair of Grivel X-Blades for the kids to use when I take them out top roping. I initially thought I would get a standard pair of tools (BD Vipers, or the like) but this tool seems perfect for my needs - dedicated to simple (not-mixed) climbing, sturdy, cheap (price).
So, anybody have experience with these tools? Is this a good idea?

I don't know anything about these tools but since it's not modular, I wonder how long they'd last.  It seem these are designed for ice surgeons.  Once they're filed down, you'd need to buy a new tool, not just a pick. So it might not be frugal in a long run.  Just something to think about.
