-Bump-

Volunteers are needed primarily for Saturday, May 31st although there are a few remaining spots open on Friday the 30th.

RCA/Forest Service/Access Fund’s Conservation Crew (5.30-5.31.14)
Projects will be based upon crew numbers and are not set to specific dates yet.

Snapshots:

Project #1:  Side hilling/benching of an existing trail, enhancement of drainages, and possibly some quarrying for a future project

Project #2 deals with multiple trails that access a single crag (Bonsai).  One trail will be closed/rehabbed and one will have a small section relocated to a better alignment

Project #3:  Planting 200 trees donated by Plymouth State University

No experience necessary!  Involves grunt work!

Planting 200 trees??? Is there really a shortage of trees? Things have been recovering fine naturally from the forest fire of 6 years ago. What is the idea behind planting the trees, Rose?

Mark, thank you for your question.

Planting trees would've helped with staging area definition and rehabilitation of impacted areas.

PSU seeks to plant trees like this every year as a carbon offset.

Since we have a short list of volunteers committed we are likely sticking with projects 1 and 2.

Unless you can help to rally up a few more folks it's not happening.

I wasn't able to make it up until later in the afternoon Saturday, but the trail work below Bonsai looked good when I walked by it. Thanks to those who were able to pitch in.

Says who? On what authority?

I agree with Mark. The last thing Rumney needs is more trees.

They should be planted on PSU land. It seems a lot more impacted than the Rumney hillside.

Hi Mark and Jay,

The trees were donated by PSU to the Forest Service.

The Forest Service thought we could plant them in an area in the Meadows to serve as a rehab area, and a
zone for educational purposes.  It's really up to the Forest Service where they want to plant trees.

If I can help in any other way on this topic please let me know.

Thanks,

Rose

No biggie, Rose. It just seemed a little weird and I was wondering what they had in mind.
