Title: S/O's
Post by: strandman on March 25, 2013, 07:42:24 PM
Wife, Ex ,GF BF  whatever--

Let's here it

My wife of almost 27 years WANTS me to climb.. I guess she knows it's in the blood. i did promise her only one or two routes in the Black Canyon.... I'm gettin' soft

My wife (non-climber) tells me to get out of the house and go climb when I get cranky from no climbing or cabin fever.
But at times it has also resulted in scheduling conflicts 9 months of the year.
So, in the end, it is "a wash".  Hopefully it will never have to come down to "it is either me or climbing!".
That would the ultimate between a rock and a hard place situation for me.

Guys/gals, remember to call your s/o the first chance you get if you are late because you "got hung up on a route".
Especially if he/she is a non-climber.

Really depends on the weather. Sometimes wife, sometimes whatever.  :)

Ex-wife climbed a bit after we moved to NH- one of her friends is a guide for EMS.... As many times as I asked, she never wanted me along..... Pretty sure that has something to do with why she is my ex.

Girlfriend now actually got me started climbing last spring and has yet to say anything negative when a new piece of gear shows up on the doorstep. We may not climb very hard but we have fun when we can get to the rock!

This - "We may not climb very hard but we have fun when we can get to the rock!" - is great.  Enjoy it.

Wife wants me to climb to because, "It's what works for us.  It gives me a chance to miss you"  (her words).  She also says I'm an
a-hole when I don't.  That said, I did have to trade some "reelin' it in a bit" for my trip to Katahdin.  I'm on a strict quota of no more than two days a week until July.   :'( :'(

After June 30th it's :P

Going to be a kick ass season. See you two days a week. Don't worry might be every day a week when you see someone else in his face..  ;D

Wife to-be loves for me to get out. I'm a total dick when I don't get out. she knows it is the thing in life I am most passionate about. I don't think she'd ever make me choose.... She knows she would only be setting herself up for disappointment. She also loves to buy gear for presents  :) HOLD ON. She always wants me gone and supplies the gear to do so.... Maybe I'm overlooking something  :o

That's why we don't have a TV....

My wife maybe did a smart thing,, she climbed pretty well, got up to following some 5.10's and then said 'that's enough for me"

I put up a ground up, somewhat necky route with Cunningham when both of us were experiencing "stress" in our marriages. Wasn't too long after we were both divorced.

We named it appropriately, Hexmate, 5.10rrr.

My soon to be ex and I met climbing 12 years ago here in the Valley. She was and still is a very talented climber, but her interests and passions were more into trail running and hiking...she is a cardio animal. After the kids were born, the two of us didn't have the time to rope up together which I still regret.

I am going on almost 30 years of climbing here pretty soon...it is amazing to me how much of my time on this earth has been spent clinging to the side of a mountain?!??!  :)

Married 4 decades + to the same woman! At first, she climbed a bit, even some alpine stuff in the Pacific NW and S. Teton, descending from the summit in a T-storm. After 2 years, (she loves to tell this story) we were dining out in a restaurant at the Gunks  (probably The Mountain Brauhaus) and I said " this fall we'll work on raising your rock climbing standard", to which she replied " Jeff, I don't have a standard and I've decided rock climbing isn't my thing!" I stammered something, then she said "don't worry, I know you love it and I won't ask you to stop."
As any couple does, we've had some rough patches and I've had to throttle back a few times, but I've spent a lot of time in the Alps, all over the American West, Canadian Rockies, Britain (Wales, England, Scotland) , Greece, and am still climbing and guiding 70-80 days /year, so life is good. Fortunately, she loves travel, foreign or domestic, so she has accompanied me on most of my longer trips. 8)

My wife of 17 years has no issue when I get out. She notices when I've been cooped up and need to move.
She will not climb however; a step stool is as high as I can get her off the ground. She will hike and occasionally cycle with me.
I just finished building her a craft room so I can basically do what ever I want for a good 3 months  :)

I am happy to report that I get a second chance with the love of my life.  During the birth of our second child, a beautiful baby girl, my wife developed serious complications.  Four minutes without a heartbeat, Seven surgeries, seven complete blood transfusions, one med flight to MGH, two weeks in I.C.U. , and many prayers later I will be bringing her home.

LOTS OF SOUL SEARCHING the last eighteen days.  Make sure you tell your SO how much he/she means to you.  Don't wait.

Does anyone have any information on this route? Was it ever completed and where is it?? Once in a while I bump into TC in Metrorock but I have a reason to try and get info on this without asking him.

Thanks
