Oh boy...it's snow-time peeps. That's right, we are now in round 3 with Ma Nature in less than 10 daze. So here's my take on it all. I know everyone is all focused on the ICE. But for the time being, just be aware of the snow for a change. We've got LOTS of it now, with more on the way. And that white stuff is in places where we all don't usually think about it.
And yes, that stuff can slough before you know it. below Great Madness, Cinema, Shoestring, the top of Odells, the little slab to the right of the Monkey Wrench - shucks even the slab just right of Thresher! That's right! I've either seen those places slough, and/or seen the obvious debris that happened right before I was there. I saw what the big one that came out of Huntington did to the entire fan. Not to mention how far it pushed the avy cache down the trail! Stuff happens, and you really do NOT want to be THAT person who gets caught in it. So hone that SNOW AWARENESS. And remember that it's always a nice day to take the tools for a walk.
ICE FEST 2023:
IMCS guide Mark Vanover and I will be co-leading a clinic on Friday titled "Just For Seniors 55+". Since Mark and I are still out here doing our best to get at it, I gotta figure that we have something that we could impart to those of us still wanting to climb as we get older. I for one am looking forward to it. There is one more slot open in this group and we'd love to have you join in.
The official date is February 3-5, 2023. Stay tuned for website and registration updates, guest guide information, and party details. If you have any questions, you can call IMCS directly at (603) 356-7064.
Ice Conditions Report:
Selected Ice Conditions effective March 21, 2024
I can't actually say that there is nothing out there that can't be climbed. That would be foolish. But for the average, or a little above average climber, that's probably correct. That said, I did hear that there is climbable ice on Parasol in Dixville Notch. Not sure how that will be after we get a foot of heavy wet snow on Saturday. Regardless, here's a few pix I took today just to document things.

SOME LOCAL/NATIONAL PANDEMIC THOUGHTS:
A 65 year old friend just got Covid and he was concerned about Paxlovid. The following is from the Joghns Hopkins web site...
Is Paxlovid still effective? Why does it seem like it’s so hard for people to get?
Paxlovid is still working very well, particularly in high-risk populations, but it’s not being prescribed as frequently as it should be. One reason may be that the possibility of a “Paxlovid rebound” has caused some patients to be leery of taking the drug. There are also some medications that Paxlovid is not compatible with, so health care providers need to ensure they are aware of exactly what a patient may already be taking before prescribing it. But overall, for the vast majority of people, Paxlovid is still a good drug to be prescribed if you get COVID-19.
New Hampshire:
4 deaths reported over the weekend!!!
1,488 active cases
32 Current hospitalizations being treated for COVID
2,929 Total deaths due to COVID-19 in NH
United States:
Confirmed: 102,078,090
Deaths: 1,105,176
OUR ONLY WAY OUT IS IF YOU GET VACCINATED, WHERE RECOMMENDED PLEASE STILL WEAR A MASK, WASH YOUR HANDS!
VALLEY CYCLING:
With the repeated dumps of snow the riding has been problematic. However the snowmobile trails are starting to get groomed and I think after this weekend we will be in very good shape for some excellent fat bike riding.

Climbing is a very dangerous sport. You can get hurt or even kill yourself. When you go climbing, you do so of your own free will. Everything on this site is to be taken with a grain of salt. Don't blame us if you get up some totally heinous route, in over your head and fall and hurt yourself.
