Hi Folks,

Grrr, Ahhh, Grrrrrrrr! That's my current G Rated opinion regarding the weather, which is the main topic of conversation among us locals these daze. And yes, it's keeping us in a true DAZE. Better than a HAZE tho, I suppose. Still, I remain optimistic... [wry grin]

As is the case ever summer, I'm taking my one bit of va-ca over on the Isle Of Shoals. The weather here is rarely much different than on the mainland, and we have had similar ups and downs. Thankfully not the intense thunderstorms that have been passing through the Valley and vicinity over the past week tho. Friends have had their houses struck by lightning, trees felled on top of cars and roads & driveways eroded and in some cases washed out! My understanding is that a good section of Town Hall Road was washed out, causing some real problems for folks who live up there. A good friend who lives in Dana Place (before the hill to Pinkham) had her drive paved a year ago and now it's really a mess. While another who lives near Shawny Peak had an indirect lightning strike that totaled lots of electronics. I'm not excited abut seeing what these rains have done to my vegetable garden. Rain is one thing, but the torrential stuff really beats up the leafy plants like lettuce and spinach. [sigh]

This has been the longest period of intense storms like this that I can remember in my 26 years in the Valley. Even tho I have Surge Protectors and UPS's on major electronics, I'm also glad I thought to unplug all my major electronics before I went away.

Whenever I'm out here on island I bring a pair of rock shoes and chalk bag to do some bouldering. I did the same this year, and perhaps it will dry out enough today and tomorrow to get in a little. It hasn't rained yet today and perhaps it will hold off. Fingers and toes are crossed!
SHAMELESS MUSICAL PLUG::
July is a full slate of gigs and next week starts it all off. Private party on Tuesday the 4th with Jim McLaughlin Group, Wednesday 5:30-7:30 again with Jim at the Saco River Brewing Company in Fryeburg, one more with Jim & the boyz at Ledge Brewing Company in Intervale and then my steady bebop/funk jazz gig on the pier at Weirs beach on Sunday the 16th 6-9.

INSTANT BUG REPORT - 3:
While somewhat declining, perhaps due to perpetual rains, the bugs are still pretty bad.

VALLEY CYCLING:
Overall the trails are in good shape and once they dry out again the riding should be great. But best to restrain yourselves for now!

Mobile Version Of NEClimbs:
Up on one of the Mount Washington Valley's finest crags and want to know what that climb you're looking at is? Or maybe you're on your way up from Boston and want to check out the Ice Report for your upcoming weekend plans. Or more likely, you're at work just want to daydream about your next adventure. Well if you have a smart phone handy, you can get to NEClimbs from anywhere you have cell service. While it doesn't offer every single feature of the site and it's not an "app", in mobile form, it does do a whole lot and is very useful. Here is the live link to the mobile version of NEClimbs:

The vias normales had perfect lines but new rock was the essence of climbing for us; throwing loose holds over the shoulder, feeling the exposed grains crush like sugar on footholes....
