Hi Folks,

HOT HOT HOT HOT! No, this isn't fall, it feels like full tilt summer, more like Florida or Georgia in August than New Hampshire in September! The UN’s weather agency says that this is THE hottest summer EVER recorded in the northern hemisphere! Crazy...

When I bought my house in '97 and moved up here, we only seemed to have a week or a little more of really hot weather, so we saw no need to have AC. Well that's most certainly changed, hasn't it? Over the past 5-6 years it's gotten hotter for longer, and I'm now thinking about what I can do to get AC in the house. Damn, I sure wish I'd done it several years ago.

With all these super hot days, here's a picture from a few years ago to keep you cool:

HBOLTS ONCE AGAIN:EADER:
I ran into Alain Comeau at a concert I was playing in Denmark Maine last weekend and he mentioned that there was some talk going around about bolts at the North end of Cathedral. I looked into it and as it turns out that it's an on-line discussion on Mountain Project about installing some anchors at the top of that area. You can read about it here:

https://www.mountainproject.com/forum/topic/124806581/discretionary-ethics-at-cathedral?

Needless to say it goes around and around and will likely go nowhere.

COVID THOUGHTS:
I wrote about this last week and figure you don't want to hear any of this stuff, but so be it - Like everyone else, I really don't want to have to think about this virus crap any more. That said, I'm simply not able to ignore it. Several folks I know casually have gotten Covid over the past month, but unfortunately it's getting closer to home. A musician I play with a lot got it at a wedding, he passed it to his girlfriend and then to a player in another band he works with. Then last weekend a good friend got it and has likely passed it to another friend. I was around them at a gig on Sunday, but don't think I caught it. I've tested several times and so far are negative. [WHEW] As someone who is (dare I say) older, is out there in society a lot, AND who depends a bunch on gigs for income this presents a real conundrum. I'm not yet planning to be masking again, but I am going to cut out the hugs. [SIGH] I am fully VAXXED (I hope you all are as well) and I plan on getting the new vaccine as soon as it's generally available. I'm NOT screwing around with this stuff, as it's not going away! This is just a heads-up...

SHAMELESS & FREE:
Tonight, September 7th, I will be performing at the delightful Brick Church in Lovell Maine with the Bradley Jazz Collective. This is an annual favorite for us and this year we will be doing a program of classic Billy Strayhorn tunes. This group has been playing together in a variety of formats for close to 15 years, but The Collective itself is pure jazz. We've done sell-out shows at the Fryeburg Academy PAC, Denmark Arts Center, Wildcat Tavern and several other area venues. If you like great music, please don't miss this show...
RUMNEY CRAGGIN' CLASSIC - September 15-17::
This 3-day grassroots climbing festival brings climbers from all over New England to Rumney, one of the oldest premiere sport climbing destinations in the United States. Challenge yourself on the schist and get after some of the most iconic routes in New England.

INSTANT BUG REPORT - 2 or is it:
YUP, the mosquitoes are still out there. A friend said that they went to Humphrey's a few days ago, forgot to bring bug spray, and had to leave because couldn't stand it. I was drinking coffee out on the deck this morning and they were worse than I've seen them in a while. You've been warned.

VALLEY CYCLING:
The Cranmore Bike Park is now closed during the week, but will remain open on weekends through Columbus Day. Other than that the single track riding is great right now. Assuming it's not too hot for you. A number of friends have gone up to Canada to ride this week, trying to find cooler conditions.

The local Fat Tire Festival is rapidly approaching. And by "Fat Tire" we actually mean ALL smountain bikes! The event is taking place on September 23 and 24th in the beautiful Fields Of Attitash. There will be camping, live music, group rides, morning yoga, and the last MTB race of the summer. You do NOT have to have a Fat Bike to get involved! Do you have a bike? Do you like riding it? AWESOME. Bartlett N.H. has amazing riding. You can learn more at summerraceseries.com and get tickets on Bike Reg.

Remember - climb hard, ride the twisty stuff, wear a helmet, stay safe - and above all BE NICE.

Mobile Version Of NEClimbs:
Up on one of the Mount Washington Valley's finest crags and want to know what that climb you're looking at is? Or maybe you're on your way up from Boston and want to check out the Ice Report for your upcoming weekend plans. Or more likely, you're at work just want to daydream about your next adventure. Well if you have a smart phone handy, you can get to NEClimbs from anywhere you have cell service. While it doesn't offer every single feature of the site and it's not an "app", in mobile form, it does do a whole lot and is very useful. Here is the live link to the mobile version of NEClimbs:

You put up with the grind of work or school as long as you can or is required. But then, one day, the phone rings one too many times, or the line at the gas pumps seems unending. The air smells bad. The food foul. 'Enough of this' you cry. You grab your ice tools and are gone.
