"Here we are again. Hold tightly while we touch the sky. There it goes again. Waving us goodby." UNREAL... 2 more days of rain and warm temps. Of course "s**t happens. But that doesn't make it easier, and the frustration level increases.
This kind of weather pushes many outdoor folken to do things that they might not do otherwise. After weeks of conditions like these, the frustration level kind of mounts up.` Not to mention if you are someone who makes their living in the outdoors, it can change the equation. Will Gadd has some things to say about risk-taking, and how he feels about if these daze. If you're on FB you can read his thoughts here:
My level of risk taking has changed over the years. But of course that might have something to do with my current age (76). [wry grin] Personally I would prefer to go wait it out and to the gym when the weather is like this. Of course YMMV, and far be it from me to criticize.
Regardless of the ice conditions, Happy New Year folks. I hope that 2024 is a happy, healthy and prosperous one for you all. All my best.
Ice Conditions Report:
Selected Ice Conditions effective January 28, 2026
Overall there is a LOT of ice out there right now. From everything I hear, the better conditions are in the sun where the ice can get plastic. Stuff in the. Shade is hard, brittle, and it's not getting refreshed like we all would like.

As I hammered in the last bolt and staggered over the rim, it was not at all clear to me who was the conqueror and who was the conquered. I do recall that El Cap seemed to be in much better condition than I was.
Climbing is a very dangerous sport. You can get hurt or even kill yourself. When you go climbing, you do so of your own free will. Everything on this site is to be taken with a grain of salt. Don't blame us if you get up some totally heinous route, in over your head and fall and hurt yourself.
