Hi Folks,

I gotta say that I am sure getting seriously tired of this heat nonsense. It's really reminding me to my time living in Miami! Upper 80's into 90's every day starts to beat you down. We had another round of crazy storms day before yesterday. There were tornado and flash-flood warnings in Vermont and north-west New Hampshire. Up around Littleton and in other places there were major road washouts! The Saco was somewhat higher and very muddy yesterday.

What's very surprising is that in spite of these deluges, overall the ground is dry! we get these 2-3 inch dumps that just run off or sink into the sandy Valley glacial soil. Maybe that contributes to my tomatoes coming later than normal. I have basil, but no cherry tomatoes yet! [sigh] I hate air conditioning, but I finally gave in yesterday and put it in with the help of my new neighbor Michael O'Brien. While it was nice to have a cool place, I hate the noise. But at least I have a place to retreat when it gets too bad. Thanks Michael!!!

FROM FRIENDS OF THE LEDGES:
I know it’s hard to think about winter right now, but we need your help. Do you ice climb at Frankenstein Cliffs and/or Mount Willard? Access to climbing areas involves the coordination and cooperation of different land owners and stakeholders. As you know, there is still the potential for access to ice climbing in Crawford Notch to become restricted. In order to facilitate continued cooperation Friends of the Ledges is gathering information about the use of these venues by ice climbers, which we hope can form the base for an economic impact study.

We need your help and input! FOTL and a committee of invested local guides have put together a questionnaire designed to gather some information. We would greatly appreciate you completing the survey and submitting it. Please share it wide and far with anyone who ice climbs in these amazing areas. Thank you!

If you are the owner of a guide service that operates in Crawford Notch in the winter and have not yet done so, please take the time to fill out the survey for guided winter use in Crawford Notch. Thank you in advance for your help!
INSTANT BUG REPORT - 4:
NASTY - especially the deerflies!

MUSICAL NOTES:
My gig at the Denmark Arts Center last Friday was truly amazing. I had the whole 5 piece band and they were awesome. I would say that it probably was the best concert that we have done this year! I hope you get the opportunity to see this band at some point. You will NOT be disappointed.

This week is my BEER TOUR 2024... The Mt Washington Valley has some of the best brewmasters and breweries in New England, and the beer is all FANTASTIC! I'll be with the Al Hospers Trio at Saco River Brewing in Fryeburg on Wednesday and then with the Jim McLaughlin Group at Ledge Brewing in Intervale on Thursday, Big Day Brewing in Gorham on Friday and Tuckerman Brewing in Conway on Sunday! Weather permitting they all will be outside, so please come on by, grab a beer and say hi.

VALLEY CYCLING:
Lots of trails are in surprisingly good shape, even after the rains. Just keep your eyes open for washouts and ruts here & there.

Remember - climb hard, ride the twisty stuff, wear your helmet, stay safe - and above all BE NICE.

My success rate is much higher when I'm soloing. It's easier to talk yourself into quitting when you have someone to talk to.
