WOO HOO... I finally got out climbing yesterday at last. Not a particularly big deal, but fun nonetheless. I have kept trying to make it happen with several friends, but it seemingly was not to be. But I asked Matty Bowman, and this time when he was available. [SWEET]
I had to drop my car at the dealer to get a new wheel bearing and grab a loaner, so we met at 9:30. Amazingly the parking area was almost totally full, and on a Wednesday morning! Go figure. We didn't see anyone else on the rock, but we spotted a pretty large group in the trees over by The Beach as we walked up to Cormier-Magness. I haven't climbed that much this season, so altho I've led it many times I only did the 1st Beginner's pitch. Matty ran up pitches 2 and 3. It really couldn't have been a nicer morning to be out on the cliff with a friend. Here's a few pictures:
And yet as beautiful as it was, it was a bittersweet day. Yesterday was September 11th, and exactly the same kind of day that the terrorists changed our world forever. It was totally clear, comfortable and sky was a gorgeous blue. Sure, I went climbing and the day was perfection. But as I looked up into the sky I could not help but remember what took place. And honestly I truly hope none of us ever forget it.
The above picture was sent in real time, literally as it was happening, by a long forgotten NY software friend who was working in Brooklyn that day. Needless to say I was in total shock. I had lived in Brooklyn and even worked at 55 Water Street near the Towers.
Ice Conditions Report:
Selected Ice Conditions effective November 27, 2025
There is minimal snow up in Crawford Notch. The pictures below are from Wednesday. While I drove through the notch today, I didn't bring a camera. However there is substantially less ice up there than there was yesterday. Mid day Wednesday it was 46 degrees at the Dry River Campground and 41 at the Highland Center. It rained a bit overnight as well. Today it was 40 at the Center! I have seen some great pictures of Pinnacle Gully from earlier in the week, but none from yesterday or today. That said, things will most certainly get better as the weekend goes on.

MORE WEATHER:
My friend Phil O sent me a link to an on-line web site which contains up to date weather for North Conway. Perhaps you've noticed the weather station located on Pine Street, right near the intersection with Main Street. It's connected to Weather Underground as as I understand it managed by the Mount Washington Observatory. I think it's a great resource, check it out.
INSTANT BUG REPORT - 2:
Well there still are bugs, tho thankfully not as many as there have been. However I was sitting out on the deck last night and again this morning and had to fend off a few mosquitoes. Just something to be aware of...
> > MUSICAL NOTES:
I'm off this week for a change, but next week will be a very busy one. I'll be at Rosa Flamings's in Bethlehem on Thursday 5-8, The Majestic Cafe in Conway on Friday 6-9, at Page Hill for a private event on Saturday and with my own band at Tuckerman Brewing Company on Sunday 3-6. WHEW

Climbing is a very dangerous sport. You can get hurt or even kill yourself. When you go climbing, you do so of your own free will. Everything on this site is to be taken with a grain of salt. Don't blame us if you get up some totally heinous route, in over your head and fall and hurt yourself.
