As I've mentioned before, I've been working really hard to get stuff done around here before winter comes. Those of you who live up in these hinterlands are probably doing the same. One of the biggest chores was cleaning out the garage so I can pull the car in this winter. Fortunately I had a strappling high school kiddo to do the heavy lifting. While it seems never ending, with the weather so amazing this past week it's been almost impossible to stay focused only on house work...
Thus, in spite of all the items on my various lists that need to be checked off, I got out climbing and even put in a bit of time on the bike. On Sunday I headed up to Mt Forist to connect with Matt Bowman. Nothing too special, but it was great. We did a run on Madigan with him leading P 1 and me P 2. Then we ran a TR on the climb to its left. Temps were absolute perfection and the sun made it feel like spring.
I got out on the bike just here in the hood on Tuesday and then yesterday did some loops at Marshall. The trails are all great, with no debris of any significance anywhere. I only saw a few other riders, but I did come across a family and dog walking up Upper Shumway! It was fortunate that I saw the dog first so I knew there would likely be people close behind, and slowed down. WHEW I've been suggesting adding some signage warning of 2-way traffic, but it just never seems to happen. Oh well...
INSTANT ICE REPORT - 0:
Needless to say there is nothing resembling ice out there, with the "possible" exception of some little overnight dribbles on Mt Washington. Of course that's going to change soon, but simply not quite yet. Just thought I would run up into Crawford Notch this afternoon for a couple of fun pix.
Selected Ice Conditions effective November 27, 2025
There is minimal snow up in Crawford Notch. The pictures below are from Wednesday. While I drove through the notch today, I didn't bring a camera. However there is substantially less ice up there than there was yesterday. Mid day Wednesday it was 46 degrees at the Dry River Campground and 41 at the Highland Center. It rained a bit overnight as well. Today it was 40 at the Center! I have seen some great pictures of Pinnacle Gully from earlier in the week, but none from yesterday or today. That said, things will most certainly get better as the weekend goes on.

A short reminder to be sure to add Sunday November 3rd from 4-7 to your busy calendars. I'll be throwing a crazy musical party on my 77th birthday at Ledge Brewing in Intervale. That's the very same Ledge Brewing that hosts Ice Fest every year. Of course my band will be playing along with a bunch of special guests like Jim McLaughlin, Mike Sakash and more! They have great beers and excellent tacos, so DON'T MISS IT...
VALLEY CYCLING:
I rode at Marshall yesterday and it was GREAT. Get out on the trails right now... Just sayin'! PS - if you ride Lucille's at Marshall check out the extensive cairns near the top!

Climbing is a very dangerous sport. You can get hurt or even kill yourself. When you go climbing, you do so of your own free will. Everything on this site is to be taken with a grain of salt. Don't blame us if you get up some totally heinous route, in over your head and fall and hurt yourself.
