Hi Folks,
Goodness, Goodness. Hither we sit, with yet another pair of gorgeous days with above average temps. And it's Halloween to boot! So what did you do today, tonight, tomorrow? I know what I'm doing. I'm going climbing with my old boss. ;-)

Of course before I could recreate, I had some work to do. Like swap the snowblower for the lawn tractor!

I have an old friend from my Gainesville Florida years, old both in years and that I've know him since the mid 60's. Since I have an upcoming birthday I thought it was interesting that he posted this on his blog yesterday.

So I get it. And that's the way I've been trying to live my life, especially over the past 4-5 years. Moving into my later 70's, a divorce, the pandemic and then a somewhat recent diagnosis of ventricular tachycardia sure helps to put a lot of things into perspective. There is a great quote by Warren Zevon from an interview on Letterman, you may know it:

So, I would never try to tell you folks how to vote. While you may have a pretty good idea who I'm voting for, that's above all a personal thing for everyone. Do remember that once you go into that booth; it's between you, that ballot and your conscience. Many will choose to write in a candidate or not to vote in protest. I do understand your frustration. ALL THAT SAID I feel I MUST encourage you TO vote.
Here's an excerpt from Nicholas Kristof's Op Ed in Todays NYT:
...That history should teach us something about the cost of protest votes. Pragmatism may not feel as satisfying as purity, but it accomplishes more. [snip] If you’re throwing away your vote, don’t envision yourself on a moral mountaintop above the fray...
[NOTE - I assure you that my snips in no way change the meaning of the full column!}
PLEASE JUST GET OUT THERE AND VOTE
I have heard that there was some snow up in the Notches this week, but that was before this warmup. So in spite of some snow on the rockpile, nope, it's not ice there yet friends. And there will be a Halloween Black Dike or Pinnacle this year. That said, it's going to get colder starting Friday night, so hang tough it WILL come. ;-)
reminder to be sure to add Sunday November 3rd from 4-7 to your busy calendars. I'll be throwing a crazy musical party for my 77th birthday at Ledge Brewing in Intervale. YUP, the very same Ledge Brewing that hosts Ice Fest every year. Of course my band will be playing along with a bunch of special guests like Jim McLaughlin, Mike Sakash and more! They have great beers and tacos so DON'T MISS IT...

I have done some riding at Marshall and it's been GREAT. I would say to get out on those trails while you can. And I'll mention again, if you ride Lucille's what about those cairns near the top! I gotta wonder who did those?
Up on one of the Mount Washington Valley's finest crags and want to know what that climb you're looking at is? Or maybe you're on your way up from Boston and want to check out the Ice Report for your upcoming weekend plans. Or more likely, you're at work just want to daydream about your next adventure. Well if you have a smart phone handy, you can get to NEClimbs from anywhere you have cell service. While it doesn't offer every single feature of the site and it's not an "app", in mobile form, it does do a whole lot and is very useful. Here is the live link to the mobile version of NEClimbs:

Check it out and if you have issues on your specific phone, please feel free to let me know.
Join us and LIKE us on Facebook. I'll try and post interesting pix every Thursday and the latest Ice Report in the season, tho certainly not the whole Report. Here's where you can check it out:

Remember - climb hard, ride the steep stuff, stay safe and above all BE NICE,
