Hi Folks,

HAPPY THANKSGIVING FOLKS... We all knew that winter would be here sooner than later, and here it is! Only a dusting on Tuesday, but it was enough to point the way. And according to all indicators we will be getting between 3" and 8" of snow on Thanksgiving day/night. While everyone is happy to be getting the weather we've been hoping for, I think everyone would have preferred it have waited 48 hours. Holiday travel is not going to be enjoyable, so please be safe!

RE ACCESS:
The Conway Scenic Railroad has announced their 2024/2025 Snow Train schedule as follows from their web site:

Trains will depart North Conway at: 9:30, 11, 1230, 2 and 330. (Except Dec 31 — no 9:30 or 3:30). The train will operate as per the 2025 calendar on the following dates:

December 26-31 2024
January 2-5, 11&12, 17-20, 25 & 26
February 1&2, 8&9, 15-23

It's not clear yet as to how far up the Notch they will go. However as the Snow train will make between a 1 hour and 1:20 round trip, it's hard to imagine they go further than the trestle - and likely only to Bartlett. That said, I think this is yet to be determined. However, the summer Mountaineer trip all the way to the top of the Notch takes 4-5 hours.

GATE CLOSURES:
Bear Notch Road, Evans Notch Road, Zealand Road, Slippery Brook Road, Cathedral Ledge Road and Hurricane Mountain Road are all closed.
2024/2025 FUNDRAISER:
The annual Fundraiser for NEClimbs and The White Mountain Report is open. Like every year for the past 15 or so, I humbly ask you readers and subscribers for a small donation. Tho I have been doing this since 1999, I haven't always asked for donations! That only started in 2004. Quite honestly, without your support it would be very difficult to justify keeping this going like it is.

Year-round I put out our weekly White Mountain Reports on Facebook, Instagram and the NEClimbs web site. Usually only for 4-5 issues of the Report. It's kind of like those pesky NPR fundraisers. Keeping you up to date with happenings in the Whites, providing the latest ice and rock conditions, reporting on events and people in the local climbing community and more consumes around 6 hours a week. That's not insignificant for anyone, and I'm just like every other overworked semi-retired dude you know.

A $20 donation isn't a heck-of-a-lot, is it? Heck, that's just a couple of latte's at the Frontside! Don't wait to make YOUR contribution. and don't assume that others will pick up the slack. YOU are the one who signed up to be included on the mailing list! YOU read it every week, and I'm the one providing the service!

Please support NEClimbs and The White Mountain Report, send your check or money order for $20 now, OR make your contribution ON LINE via PayPal. It's easy & painless and you can use your credit card. Simply click the link in comments to make your donation...

MUSICAL NOTES:
November has been a slow month for me this year. There were a few fun gigs, but I wasn't as busy as I had been. December looks to be better so that's pretty cool. I'll have what looks to be a really fun jazz show at the Majestic Cafe and then gigs at Big Day and Ledge with my band and Jim McLaughlin. I won't be playing New Years Eve for the first time in a long time, but that's OK with me.

If you're interested you can always see my schedule here:

VALLEY CYCLING:
The trails have been great, even with the little bit of snow/freezing rain we just had. But that's going to change following the upcoming snowfall. It won't be enough to do any grooming, so things will be messy. And when it feezes up it will be treacherous. I put the regular mountain bike away for the winter and am getting the fat bike set for what's to come. The studded tires are on and I'm pretty ready for whatever comes my way.
