Rain, Rain, Rain... While a December rain event is fairly normal, this was a frikkin' LOT. The National Weather Service data seems to indicate that we got 2.5" of rain with Jackson getting over 3". YIKES! At least there is finally water in the system, as we are fond of saying. Considering everything, the snowpack didn't get as clobbered as I'd expected. There is still close to full coverage on Attitash and I didn't see bare ground in general in the woods.
MWV CLIMBERS COOP:
Went to the COOp meeting last night. I thought it was a positive meeting and it was good to finally hear about what's been going on with them and that there IS some motion in the ocean. It's too much for me to put in here, but with any luck they will put out a press release soon detailing the status. I certainly wish them a lot of luck...
Selected Ice Conditions effective November 27, 2025
There is minimal snow up in Crawford Notch. The pictures below are from Wednesday. While I drove through the notch today, I didn't bring a camera. However there is substantially less ice up there than there was yesterday. Mid day Wednesday it was 46 degrees at the Dry River Campground and 41 at the Highland Center. It rained a bit overnight as well. Today it was 40 at the Center! I have seen some great pictures of Pinnacle Gully from earlier in the week, but none from yesterday or today. That said, things will most certainly get better as the weekend goes on.

It's not clear yet as to how far up the Notch they will go. However right now the Snow Train has been seen to run all the way to Fabian Station! And be aware that the plow train may run at ANY time! Regardless as to how you access the climbing DO NOT leave your packs or gear on the tracks at any time.
GATE CLOSURES:
Bear Notch Road, Evans Notch Road, Zealand Road, Slippery Brook Road, Cathedral Ledge Road and Hurricane Mountain Road are all closed.
MUSICAL NOTES:
I'll at Tuckerman Brewing Company on Friday the 13th from 4-7pm with the Jim McLaughlin Group. Then on Friday December 20th I will be playing jazz at the Majestic Cafe 7-9 with Tom Robinson and Peter Moutis, with my full band Saturday the 21st 6-9 at Big Day Brewing in Gorham, and then on December 28th with the Jim McLaughlin Group at Ledge Brewing 6-9. I hope to see you at one or more of these.
VALLEY CYCLING:
The local NEMBA group had groomed Marshall and Rogers Crossing prior to the rains. It will take a few cold days & nights to set things up again, but things should be rideable after that. Studded tires are a good idea right now!

Climbing is a very dangerous sport. You can get hurt or even kill yourself. When you go climbing, you do so of your own free will. Everything on this site is to be taken with a grain of salt. Don't blame us if you get up some totally heinous route, in over your head and fall and hurt yourself.
