So here we are even before mid-March and it's REALLY FRIKKIN' WARM. We've had a string of sunny days in the upper 40's and more to come! This in spite of the actual increase in the snowpack. I have also seen numerous postings of human and naturally triggered avalanches in the ravines. Considering that the lower elevation ice is already falling apart I think it's worth considering the care needed when extending your season into the alpine zone.
Here's a series of pictures from the past 20 years, just to put things into some perspective. The dates are in the file names if not on the photo itself...
There was a close call in Tuckerman Ravine on Wednesday. This was the third of these in the past 4 months! A search on the WMUR.com web site using keywords TUCKERMAN and SNOWBOARD will show videos! Here is the most recent one...
As you must realize, I mostly avoid making political posts on these pages. That said, a friend who lives in Colorado and is on their Mountain Rescue Service posted this a few days ago. I'll just leave it here for your perusal...
Selected Ice Conditions effective November 27, 2025
There is minimal snow up in Crawford Notch. The pictures below are from Wednesday. While I drove through the notch today, I didn't bring a camera. However there is substantially less ice up there than there was yesterday. Mid day Wednesday it was 46 degrees at the Dry River Campground and 41 at the Highland Center. It rained a bit overnight as well. Today it was 40 at the Center! I have seen some great pictures of Pinnacle Gully from earlier in the week, but none from yesterday or today. That said, things will most certainly get better as the weekend goes on.

MUSICAL NOTES:
I'm off this weekend, but will be at Tuckerman Brewing next Friday with my band featuring Mike Sakash (sax), Jarrod Taylor (guitar), Tom Robinson (keys), Tim Gilmore (drums).
VALLEY CYCLING:
I've ridden several times at Rogers Crossing, in Bartlett near Attitash. Tho there is some debris from the winds on Friday & Saturday, it's been great riding on the groomed and well packed trails. My understand is that Marshall has been in similar shape. Clearly this is going to change as we go through the week. If you get out and see you're sinking in more than 1", please lower your tire pressure. And if it's still the same, just call it a day! Here's a picture from last Sunday's ride are Rogers Crossing taken down by the Saco. I also rode on Monday and tho it was warm, it was good riding.
Mobile Version Of NEClimbs:
Up on one of the Mount Washington Valley's finest crags and want to know what that climb you're looking at is? Or maybe you're on your way up from Boston and want to check out the Ice Report for your upcoming weekend plans. Or more likely, you're at work just want to daydream about your next adventure. Well if you have a smart phone handy, you can get to NEClimbs from anywhere you have cell service. While it doesn't offer every single feature of the site and it's not an "app", in mobile form, it does do a whole lot and is very useful. Here is the live link to the mobile version of NEClimbs:
Check it out and if you have issues on your specific phone, please feel free to let me know.

Climbing is a very dangerous sport. You can get hurt or even kill yourself. When you go climbing, you do so of your own free will. Everything on this site is to be taken with a grain of salt. Don't blame us if you get up some totally heinous route, in over your head and fall and hurt yourself.
