There are 3 things to think about right now - what's IN, what's OUT and how are you going to get around... I think if you go through the pictures and read the weather report, you'll get the idea. The Nor'easter that came through yesterday dropped 48" in the south west part of the state, 5" here at Cathedral Ledge and a foot + in the Notches. I'll leave it to your imagination as to how it will be wandering around up there...
PETER SANDBERG OBITUARY::
I spotted this in last week's newspaper. I was turned on to Peter by George Hurley. George and Jean published a book of short climbing stories by Peter that are very well done. The book is entitled GABE'S FALL AND OTHER CLIMBING STORIES. I highly recommend it, if you can find it. RIP Peter...
Selected Ice Conditions effective December 15, 2025
Took a quick ride into the Notch Monday morning. There was a lot more climbable stuff than on Thursday. At this rate by the weekend many things will be in normal IN conditions.Weather permitting of course. NOTE - possibility of rain late Thursday! FWIW In many placed right now, including my yard, the ground is simply NOT fully frozen. Please don't count on getting those solid turf-shots... Protect early and often!

SOME LOCAL/NATIONAL PANDEMIC STATISTICS AND THOUGHTS::
Johns Hopkins has stopped keeping current, as has the state of NH. So I'll just say this - be careful folks. I know plenty of people who have gotten COVID and there are still folks dying. Get vaxxed and be cautions. That's all I have to say.
VALLEY CYCLING:
Everywhere other than the snow machine trails are not rideable right now. Here's a picture of Sawyer River Road, which was just groomed this morning for the snow machines. I'm not sure how this will last. Grab it while you can...
Mobile Version Of NEClimbs:
Up on one of the Mount Washington Valley's finest crags and want to know what that climb you're looking at is? Or maybe you're on your way up from Boston and want to check out the Ice Report for your upcoming weekend plans. Or more likely, you're at work just want to daydream about your next adventure. Well if you have a smart phone handy, you can get to NEClimbs from anywhere you have cell service. Breaking into a new area of climbing while remaining safe is probably sort of like practicing religion. There's no best way to do it, and if you screw up, you're going down...
Climbing is a very dangerous sport. You can get hurt or even kill yourself. When you go climbing, you do so of your own free will. Everything on this site is to be taken with a grain of salt. Don't blame us if you get up some totally heinous route, in over your head and fall and hurt yourself.
