A foggy day in Crawford Notch (town)
It had me low and had me down
I viewed the morning with much alarm
Standard and Dropline had lost their charm
How long, I wondered, could this ice last?
Etc, etc...
(with credit to George and Ira Gershwin)
Needless to say I don't definitively know the answer, nobody does. But based on observational data it sure is going fast. And before we know it, all the climbable ice will be in the upper elevations. While it hasn't been a great ice season, there has been stuff to climb. that said you better get what you can, while you can!
Ice Conditions Report:
Selected Ice Conditions effective November 27, 2025
There is minimal snow up in Crawford Notch. The pictures below are from Wednesday. While I drove through the notch today, I didn't bring a camera. However there is substantially less ice up there than there was yesterday. Mid day Wednesday it was 46 degrees at the Dry River Campground and 41 at the Highland Center. It rained a bit overnight as well. Today it was 40 at the Center! I have seen some great pictures of Pinnacle Gully from earlier in the week, but none from yesterday or today. That said, things will most certainly get better as the weekend goes on.

VALLEY CYCLING:
There have been places where you could ride, in spite of warming temps. These mainly packed snowmobile trails and some ski trails. However, they are all fading fast. The best time to ride is later at night and in the early morning as it's still generally below freezing at night. If you are out and you find yourself sinking more than ~ 1/2", please do call it as you'll make a mess. In places where the snow is gone the trail is assuredly going to be muddy, and this is not a good place to ride. The ruts you put in a trail in the very early season likely will be there in the fall! Just sayin...

Climbing is a very dangerous sport. You can get hurt or even kill yourself. When you go climbing, you do so of your own free will. Everything on this site is to be taken with a grain of salt. Don't blame us if you get up some totally heinous route, in over your head and fall and hurt yourself.
