Hi Folks,
I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. Mine was great and I am incredibly grateful for my family and friends. I would be happier with some ice down here in the lower elevations, but we all know it WILL come.
Last month was the warmest November on record by a significant margin and the eighth driest since records began in 1959. The warmest November daily maximum temperature was set on Nov. 7 with a temperature of 78 degrees. That broke the previous mark of 77 degrees set Nov. 1, 1974, and the third warmest set of 76 degrees set Nov. 2, 1974. The monthly average was 42.4 degrees, which broke the previous warmest November monthly average of 41.3 degrees set in 2022 and the third-highest mark of 40.9 recorded in 1999.
The month of November finished with 2.84 inches of total liquid precipitation recorded in North Conway. That was 1.63 inches below normal and made November 2024 the eighth driest November on record. Much of the month featured dry, clear conditions, with just 0.05 inches of rain recorded in the first three weeks of the month.

The annual Fundraiser for NEClimbs and The White Mountain Report is open. Like every year for the past 15 or so, I humbly ask you readers and subscribers for a small donation. Tho I have been doing this since 1999, I haven't always asked for donations! That only started in 2004. Year-round I put out our weekly White Mountain Reports on Facebook, Instagram and the NEClimbs web site. Usually only for 4-5 issues of the Report. It's kind of like those pesky NPR fundraisers. Keeping you up to date with happenings in the Whites, providing the latest ice and rock conditions, reporting on events and people in the local climbing community and more consumes around 6 hours a week. That's not insignificant for anyone, and I'm just like every other overworked semi-retired dude you know.

The Conway Scenic Railroad has announced their 2024/2025 Snow Train schedule as follows from their web site:
Trains will depart North Conway at: 9:30, 11, 1230, 2 and 330. (Except Dec 31 — no 9:30 or 3:30). The train will operate as per the 2025 calendar on the following dates:
December 26-31 2024
January 2-5, 11&12, 17-20, 25 & 26
February 1&2, 8&9, 15-23
It's not clear yet as to how far up the Notch they will go. However right now the Snow Train has been seen to run all the way to Fabian Station! And be aware that the plow train may run at ANY time! Regardless as to how you access the climbing DO NOT leave your packs or gear on the tracks at any time.
Bear Notch Road, Evans Notch Road, Zealand Road, Slippery Brook Road, Cathedral Ledge Road and Hurricane Mountain Road are all closed.
November has been a slow month for me this year. There were a few fun gigs, but I wasn't as busy as I had been. December looks to be better so that's pretty cool. I'll have what looks to be a really fun jazz show at the Majestic Cafe on the 20th and then gigs at Big Day and Ledge with my band and Jim McLaughlin. I won't be playing New Years Eve for the first time in a long time, but honestly that's OK with me.

Fat bikes and studded tires are pretty much required now. The recent snow has made some trails more difficult, except in places where hikers have packed things down. And that may be a few days after this storm winds down. My understanding is that Rogers Crossing in Glen has had one groom pass and will likely get another soon after this storm. THNX NEMBA... The snow machines haven't gotten out yet except on Bear Notch Rd, so stay tuned.
Up on one of the Mount Washington Valley's finest crags and want to know what that climb you're looking at is? Or maybe you're on your way up from Boston and want to check out the Ice Report for your upcoming weekend plans. Or more likely, you're at work just want to daydream about your next adventure.
